GMDSS Handbook
Annex - 8-13
USE OF FREQUENCY 8364 kHz FOR SURVIVAL CRAFT

1. The Maritime Safety Committee, at its sixtieth session (6 to 10 April 1992), noted that, as a result of the decisions of the World Administrative Radio Conference for the Mobile Services (MOB-87), 1987, changes concerning the use of the HP frequency band imply that the frequency 8364 kHz is no longer guarded by coast stations.

2. Since this frequency can still be used by survival craft equipment in ships not fitted in accordance with the requirements of the GMDSS, the attention of Member Governments is drawn to this fact and the need to ensure that all concerned are aware that coast stations no longer keep watch on the aforementioned frequency.
