USE OF FREQUENCY 4209.5 kHz FOR PROMULGATION OF MARITIME SAFETY INFORMATION (MSI)

1. The World Administrative Radio Conference for the Mobile Services, 1987 (W ARC Mob-87) has designated the frequency 4209.5 kHz for promulgation of MSI (meteorological and navigational warnings and urgent information to ships) by means of narrow-band direct-printing telegraphy (NBDP) in a predominantly ground wave mode.

2. The Sub-Committee on Radiocommunications at its thirty-fourth session (COM 34/14, paragraph 5.2.8) decided that the operational co-ordination of NAVTEX type transmissions using NBDP techniques on 4209.5 kHz is likely to be required, and could be carried out most effectively, by the NAVTEX Co-ordinating Panel which has been established to perform this function for the frequency 518 kHz.

3. The Maritime Safety Committee at its fifty-fifth session (MSC 55/25, paragraph 3.1.2.17) noted the actions taken by W ARC Mob-87 and Sub-Committee on Radiocommunications.

4. Member Governments are invited to inform the Organisation of their intended use of frequency 4209.5 kHz for promulgation of MSI.
