1. The Sub-Committee on Radiocommunications (COM) at its thirty-sixth session (10 to 14 December 1990) revised (COM 36/21, paragraphs 5.1 to 5.7) the text of the International SafetyNET Manual and agreed that the manual would provide sufficient guidance on the use of the system until 1 February 1992, the introductory date for the SafetyNET service, but that it was, at that time, premature to finalise its text until after the necessary system trials have taken place.

2. The Sub-Committee instructed the SafetyNET Co-ordinating Panel to prepare a final text, incorporating the results of operational experience, for submission to its thirty-eighth session (tentatively scheduled for June 1992).

3. The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC59/33, paragraph 9.9) at its fifty-ninth session (13 to 24 May 1991) amended and approved the Manual for circulation to Member Governments as guidance on the use of the SafetyNET system in the period prior to its introduction on 1 February 1992.

4. Member Governments are invited to convey any experience and comments they may have on the introduction of the SafetyNET system to the SafetyNET Co-ordinating Panel at the address given in annex 1 to the International SafetyNET Manual.
